Overview of the environment

     Meihua Lake Agriculture Leisure Area is located in the middle of Dongshan Township, Yilan County. The district is under the three villages and they are De'an Village, Guangxing Village and Lupu Village, covering an area of about 283 hectares. This area connects two towns (Luodong Town and Suao Town) and four townships (Sanxing Township, Datong Township, Nan'ao Township, Wujie Township). The South of this area is a mountain range that stretches for several kilometers and to the North is Luodong River. There are characteristic lakes in the territory and appearance resembles the five branches of plum blossoms. It was named "Plum Blossom Lake" by the first president Jiang Jing Guo. Among the 48 designated recreational agricultural areas in the Taiwan, it is one of the few that focus on lake ecology. 
     In addition, Meihua Lake is not only rich in lake ecology and educational significance, but also has water resources conservation and farmland irrigation. It is a natural reservoir given to the Meihua Lake recreational agricultural area by God and it has nurtured rich landscapes for the Meihua Lake recreational agricultural area , Biology, agriculture, recreation and other resources.

 

Ecological resources

     The natural environment and landscape in the Meihua Lake Agriculture Leisure Area are well maintained so it is an area rich in animal and plant resources that gathers a lot of animals and plants. Common bird resources in the Meihua Lake Agriculture Leisure Area include Crested serpert eagle, Lesser Coucal, Oriolus traillii and Pycnonotus sinensis; fish resources such as Crucian carp, Carp, Cichlasoma and Rhinogobius brunneus; wild animal resources such as Taiwanese Rock macaque, civets, squirrels and bats; after the seeing the Bambi Hills, sika deer brought a new atmosphere; wild plant resources such as Large-leaved Nanmu, Acacia merrillii Nielsen, chrysanthemum, and Soap-bark Vine and other rare plants, common low-altitude plants such as Roundleaf Rotala, charcoal trema, Mallotus japonicus, Macaranga tanarius, and Ficus ampelas Burm.f  are also very common in the local area. Many rare plants such as Buttonbush and Taiwan Buerger Maple are also planted. With the rich ecological resources of animals and plants, the Meihua Lake Recreation Agriculture Area is a good place worthy of leisure travel for the whole family, and its rich ecological resources are more meaningful for ecological education.

 

Special agricultural products

     Since the Meihua Lake Recreation Agriculture Area is currently the largest Mulberry production area in Yilan, month of April is the peak production period. Meihua Lake Recreation Area will invite public to participate in mulberry season activities which is not only subverts tourists’ perception of the mulberry In addition to the “Silkworm Mulberries” that are as long as fingers, you can also experience the fun of mulberry fruit picking and DIY jam. Other special agricultural products are also available in turn according to the season, such as golden Date, green bamboo shoots, Lemongrass, Wendan grapefruit and Roselle. Among them, the thin and full-skinned Wendan grapefruit is worth a try although it is smaller in appearance. The drops of Roselle are bright red and sweet and sour. It is the most suitable for brewing into drinks.  

     In addition, the Wuji Sanqing temple is in the distance. Local folk believes the purpose of promoting Taoist teachings. It is gorgeous and gathers the essence of Chinese classical architecture. It overlooks Meihua Lake by the mountains and rivers. Riding bike around Meihua Lake, the charming scenery is dazzling and it is the love memory of many people when they were young; it is also suitable to sit quietly on the viewing platform and enjoy the beautiful Meihua Lake scenery with wind blowing.
